Ahead of the European Commission review of the EU Emissions Trading System in summer 2026, 80 large Nordic companies including the NCRA have issued a joint call to strengthen the EU Emission Trading Scheme (ETS) as a cornerstone of Europe’s climate and competitiveness strategy.

The companies represent 80 large businesses with annual revenues of €303 billion and employ 653,000 million people. The statement highlights the Nordic experience as proof that clean competitiveness is achievable at scale. Early investment, technological leadership and integrated energy markets have enabled rapid decarbonization while maintaining industrial strength.

A predictable and long term EU ETS framework is identified as critical to mobilizing private capital, boosting productivity, lowering energy costs and strengthening Europe’s strategic resilience.
