About NCRA
Founded in 2025, the Nordic Carbon Removal Association (NCRA) is a non-profit trade association committed to advancing science-based, high-integrity carbon removal across the Nordics.
Discover NCRA
At NCRA, we believe the Nordics can set a global benchmark. We facilitate practical solutions and coordinated policy action to accelerate credible, scalable carbon removal in the region.
Our Mission
Our mission is to drive sustained supply and demand for high-quality carbon removal, positioning the Nordics as a globally competitive carbon removal hub. In our mission, we:
Coordinate stakeholders across the Nordic CDR value chain
We bring together industry, policymakers, researchers, and civil society to align efforts, build trust, and increase efficiency.
Develop policy frameworks and standards that enable scaling
We advocate for robust, science-based policies and clear rules that give Nordic CDR actors the certainty needed to invest, deploy, and grow.
Foster public trust through transparency and evidence
We promote openness, rigorous monitoring, and clear communication to ensure carbon removal is credible, understandable, and publicly accepted.
Support knowledge exchange and regional collaboration
We facilitate cross-border learning, data sharing, and dialogue to accelerate collective progress and avoid duplication of effort.
Position the Nordics as a credible hub for carbon removal
We help ensure the Nordic region is seen as a coordinated, investable environment for high-integrity carbon removal within Europe and beyond.
Why carbon dioxide removal?
Carbon dioxide removal (CDR) is a critical part of achieving climate targets. Even aggressive emissions reductions cannot eliminate all emissions; CDR fills this gap by actively removing and permanently storing CO₂ already in the atmosphere. Investing in CDR now helps reduce climate risks, accelerate the path to net zero, and provides a tool for reversing emissions beyond neutrality.
Net emissions
CDR accelerates climate progress by complementing rapid emission cuts, allowing society to reach net-zero faster.
Net zero
CDR offsets residual, hard-to-abate emissions that remain after maximum feasible reductions, enabling true climate neutrality.
Net negative
Once net-zero is reached, scaling CDR enables net-negative emissions, actively drawing down atmospheric CO₂ to reverse warming and restore the climate.
Board of Directors and Secretariat
Our board and secretariat combine expertise from industry, research, and policy—reflecting the strength of Nordic collaboration and credibility. Meet the leaders driving credible carbon removal forward.
